My servant has a different spirit ...
~ Num 14:24

Different

My name is John. It’s apt. It comes from the Hebrew for ‘the grace of God’. And gracious He truly has been to me.

I live in Tasmania, on the edge of the habitable world. Between here and the Antarctic is nothing but the Great Southern Ocean, which is trackless and wild and pure. From across this expanse comes wind that blasts away the dust and pollution. It’s good to be clean.

Beyond that, it is comforting to love and be loved, and liberating to live a simple life, to grow food, to not be in debt, to care little what others think, to have nothing to prove.

Being in a remote place is no curse. There is not the hurry and scurry. There is time to think and time to draw close to God.

Life wasn’t always this way, but God is generous. He gave us another chance.

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life

~ 1 Thessalonians 4:11
